Encouraging Ofsted report for Lambeth Academy
23 April 2010
Ofsted inspectors have rated ULT's Lambeth Academy as satisfactory and judged that it has good prospects for the future.
Of 31 separate categories, the academy was judged to be “good” in 19, with “outstanding” judgements in two and “satisfactory” in a further ten. The academy’s strong overall progress was noted, with its capacity for sustained improvement rated as “good”. The report also noted that “the percentage of students gaining five A*-C passes at GCSE level is set to rise significantly in 2010”.
The report praised the academy’s senior leadership team and governors, who were described as “not afraid to set very challenging targets, which are usually achieved”. Inspectors also said the academy’s success could be seen in that “all those students who left last year found work or chose to extend their education”.
Ofsted was particularly impressed with the academy’s contribution to community cohesion, which was judged “outstanding” – the highest grade available. Inspectors said: “the academy works successfully to ensure equality of opportunity for all and to eliminate all forms of discrimination”.
Stephen Potter, Principal of Lambeth Academy, said: “This report is confirmation to all of us at the academy that our hard work is paying off. The commitment and energy of our students and staff makes us who we are as a school. We’ve worked really hard to be involved with our community here in Lambeth, so I’m particularly pleased for this to be recognised by the Ofsted team. We’re pleased with the report but determined to keep improving and challenging ourselves to reach higher and achieve even more.”
John O’Farrell, Chair of Governors at Lambeth Academy, said: “Congratulations are due to all the students and staff at the academy who have worked so hard to achieve this result. This report is a confirmation that we’re on the right path and that our progress is getting faster every day.”
Fiona Oommen, Southern Regional Executive for the United Learning Trust, said: “Lambeth was one of our first academies and I’m delighted to see it continue to make excellent progress. This is its first inspection as a full-sized academy and it is very encouraging. I’m especially pleased that the academy’s outstanding work for its community has been recognised for the invaluable contribution it is.”
