United Church Schools Trust / United Learning Trust Chief Executive
17 June 2010
Lord Carey, Chairman of the United Church Schools Trust (UCST), today announced that the UCST Board had engaged Perrett Laver to assist in identifying appropriate candidates to succeed Sir Ewan Harper as Group CEO from 1 July 2011.
Lord Carey said:
“The Board believe it is appropriate to begin the process now to identify a successor for the challenging and vital role as Group CEO. Over the 20 years during which Sir Ewan has held this post, the Group has grown and developed beyond all recognition. He has been the inspiration and driving force behind this growth of UCST and the first ten years of our involvement with the Academy programme under the United Learning Trust (ULT). This work has been anchored in the Christian values and beliefs of the organisation which have also formed a key motivation in Ewan’s life.
“As part of this development he has built a highly professional management team who will continue to manage the growth of the Group and sustain the ethos of the Group in the future under his successor. We are determined to achieve a smooth and well planned transition to continue to build on the existing strong foundation.”
Sir Ewan Harper said:
“Over the past 20 years we have built a team which has taken UCST from a relatively weak organisation to one of the outstanding education groups in the country. This now embraces the United Learning Trust with its 17 academies and, across the Group, we serve 25,000 pupils and employ a close-knit team of nearly 5,000 people. It remains a deep joy and privilege to be at the helm as CEO for a further year, but it is essential now that forward planning embraces the next 10 years to build on our existing strengths. I therefore welcome the commitment of the Board to supporting this vision of growth and to finding the right successor to take the Group through that period.”
