North Oxfordshire Academy celebrates significant improvement at GCSE

24 August 2010

At North Oxfordshire Academy, staff and students have been celebrating a 50% improvement in the percentage of students achieving A*-C grades including English and maths. This year 38.2% of students achieved these grades compared to 25% last year, taking the academy comfortably out of National Challenge. Three years ago, the year before the academy opened, its predecessor Drayton High School achieved only 12%.

Ruth Robinson, Principal of North Oxfordshire Academy, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with these results.  Staff and students have worked incredibly hard over the past year and these results show just how far the academy has come since it opened.  Our five or more A*-C grades including English and maths is not only a 50% increase on last year’s results, it also takes the academy well above the National Challenge target.”

Fiona Oommen, Southern Regional Executive of the United Learning Trust, which sponsors North Oxfordshire Academy, said: “I would like to congratulate Ruth Robinson, her colleagues and students on these wonderful results.  Since opening three years ago, the academy has made steady progress but this year’s results signal a breakthrough year for the academy and show that the academy is bringing about real improvement.”
