Walthamstow Academy's accelerated success at GCSE

24 August 2010

Today students at Walthamstow Academy are celebrating after 49% achieved five or more A*-C grades at GCSE including English and maths – up from 31% last year. This demonstrates a significant increase in the year-on-year improvement shown since the academy opened.

Emma Skae, Principal of Walthamstow Academy, said: “I am absolutely thrilled with the achievements of our students.  They have worked incredibly hard and it has all paid off.  We look forward to many of our students continuing their success with us as they join our flourishing Sixth Form.

“I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all of the staff at Walthamstow Academy, who could not have done anything more to bring out the best in all our students.  The significant rise in results is an indicator of what the future holds for us here at Walthamstow Academy.  Coupled with our brilliant A Level results last week, we are very, very proud indeed.”

Fiona Oommen, Southern Regional Executive of the United Learning Trust, which sponsors the academy, said: “These are a splendid set of results and I congratulate Emma Skae, her colleagues and all the students who achieved these results.  Walthamstow Academy has showed continued improvement year-on-year but the significant increase in today’s results indicate a substantial increase in progress at the academy.”
